peterblaise
.

Contax-mount lenses? Do you mean Yashica or the universal screw mount or what type of "Contax" Zeiss lenses do you have?

I get my adapters from SRB Film, now at:

http://www.srb-griturn.com/

Tell us more, Gianluca, and let us know what you do.

PS - ALL Alpha's are the same lens mount.

.

peterblaise
.

Note that any non-electronic lens adapted to any modern electronic camera may have compromises:

(a) a teleconverter adapter which changes the optical qualities and effective focal length and effective aperture - some only require an adapter without a lens, but some require an adapter with a supplemental lens that acts as a teleconverter

(b) manual focus, manual zoom, manual stop down aperture for metering, note that focusing may be difficult at stopped down aperture, but focusing my be inacurate if not set while stopped down to taking aperture - modern auto focus viewfinders are hard to see through for manual focusing, also note that the Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 has the largest, clearest, 100% viewfinder and interchangeable focusing screens, so they saw you commin'! ;-)

© an inability to engage metering or automatic exposure features of the camera. The Sony Alpha DSLR-A900, I believe, can be used in Program or Aperture priority mode with non-electronic lenses and metering will work. The Sony Alpha DSLR-A200 can only be used in Manual mode with non-electronic lenses, so you must adjust aperture and shuttter speed, and metering may not be an accurate reference - does anyone have experience on the A200 with non-electronic lenses?

.
godfrey
Program mode with the A900 can't work with adapted lenses if the body cannot control the lens opening. Can it? For cameras that support metering with adapted lenses, usually Av and Manual metering work presuming some degrees of freedom about metering range and accuracy. I'm not familiar enough with the Sony bodies to answer for their specific capabilities.

Godfrey

If someone has been able to make it work on Aperture priority auto, please let me know. There is no reason why A should not work, it does in older Minolta bodies and also in Olympus E system for example. But in my A900 I can only use these lenses on M. Not a big deal for me since the two lenses I use are both shift (one with tilt as well) and really need to be measured manually anyways.

brien_m
I've only heard of the Contax Yashica lens adaptor for the Canon mount.
ilkka
I don't have anything to complain about the A900 image quality. I have so far not used it on higher than ISO200 and I don't really need to. I have a tripod. I used to use Pentax 67 or a 6x12 panorama camera with Velvia or Provia. At ISO200 I have one stop more speed than I did before.
www.luminous-landscape.com has some good discussion on the supposed noise of this camera.
