samstevens
”I also know that there is more of the really abstract in some 'representation' than in most of the dead representations of the so-called abstract so fashionable now.”—Alfred Stieglitz, talking about one of his Equivalents cloud photos This is why I can appreciate JDMvW’s entry in the thread that inspired this one. It’s that his photo in that thread conveyed to me, by including the fragments of tree and lamppost, “the really abstract in some ‘representation.’” "You talkin' to me?" Sandy Vongries
Sandy, what do you think caused that dark smudge line in the blue all along the edge of the cloud? Haven't a clue - took 4 exposures - 2 each at slightly different settings, present in all 4. The clouds were very dramatic and extremely white, the sunlight still very strong at a bit after 6 p.m. Just under 2 hours later, it rained.
samstevens
I don’t see it in the 2nd shot. It’s a quite pronounced darkened area in the blue along the cloud’s edge in the 1st. I wondered if it was something you did in post or, if your software generated it when converting to jpg. It almost looks like what could happen when highlights are recovered in the cloud area and that spills over into the sky. Anyway, just curious because it has a strong impact. "You talkin' to me?" Got it in one - I did a minor tweak on the highlights, just a small movement of the slider, and that was enough. I'll have to watch out for that in future.
