Close-up lens/filter for 70-200 f/4L

I have a 70-200 f/4L with the 67mm filter size and was wondering why there aren't any

500D lenses to fit this lens. Is this the best choice for this particular lens or is the Nikon

5T an option to consider. Please let me know what your choice is/was and why it works

for you. I've heard that the Nikon is also cheaper. Thanks for your help!

Indeed, as much as I can see there is no 67mm close-up filter. Thus you are left with either the Canon 72mm 500D for 115$ or the 62mm Nikon 5T for 47$.

For the Canon you'll need a step-up ring and will not be able to use the lens hood (and risk flare). With the Nikon you'll need a step-down ring. Everything I hear suggest you will not see any vignetting (even on film) with these filters.

Personally, I'd buy the 5T + 6T + step-down ring at the price of the 500D. You'll get three close-up options, will be able to use the lens hood and will not scarify anything in quality. Looks like a winning option to me.

Happy shooting,
The Nikon close up lenses are outstanding. Although I'm not fond of using step-down rings, it probably wouldn't present any problem with vignetting on the 70-200. I use a Nikon 5T on a Canon 100-300 with good results. Someday I'll force myself to buy the 500D for my 70-200/2.8 but I can't justify the price right now.

I always try to recommend the best thing from my point of view. Almost always it's a Canon product but if I hear that another one is equally good and less expensive, I have no problems recommending it. FWIW, I plan to buy them myself.

Happy shooting ,

Yakim.
