bruce_erickson1
I think I need to clean out the dust inside my Nikon SuperCoolscan 5000 ED film scanner. Has anyone done this and how is it done?
JDMvW
I've cleaned out my CoolScan 9000. It's not rocket science, but it does require a gentle hand. If it's similar to the 5000, Undo the screws on the bottom - Keep track of them as opposed to other screws...Slide off cover Once you are inside, use rocket-style blower (no canned gas) and a very soft brush to clean off visible elementsYou may not need to take it all apart. Most important, NEVER FORCE IT, DON'T EVEN GET A BIGGER HAMMER.:p
JDMvW
Nolite id cogere, cape malleum maiorem some guy Bloch has tried to appropriate this, but it is supposed to have been found on the walls of a Roman (or maybe Oscan) smithy in Pompeii Edited October 29, 2017 by JDMvW
Ed_Ingold
A much-maligned (on PNET) phone camera can help document the disassembly so you can retrace your steps.

Get a roll of blue painter's tape, and as you dismantle, tear off a small section of the tape or each screw to attach to, then stick the tape with the screw attached as close to where it goes on the device. Now, you don't lose screws, or confuse which one goes where. HTH
