"Certificate Expired"?

Discussion in 'Photo.net Site Help' started by sanford, Oct 11, 2016.

  1. This is the message I get when visiting P/N starting Monday. I use Safari and have Avast security but never saw this message before. Firefox doesn't show this message.

Basically it means someone either didn't notice the SSL certificate was expiring or decided not to pay it. It's not that expensive (I pay $50/year) so it seems more like inattention.
The issue is that there may not be a secure connection to the site, meaning personal data, in this case mostly user name/password can be snooped, especially in a public location such as a coffee shop. Probably a good idea to make sure your PN password is unique to the site and not used for other sites.
  4. I was also getting this warning earlier today but it now appears to have stopped. cb
  5. Yesterday I got a similar warning from Firefox but only within PN's "Featured Equipment" pane ad on the right column that mentioned this website "widget.grtadmin.com" as not being secure. I'm not clicking on it so I don't understand how I'm not secure.
Searched that URL and got this... http://www.google.com/#newwindow=1&q=who+is+widget.grtadmin.com
So I don't know whether PN is secure or only that particular banner ad site.
I'm not getting this warning from Firefox browser any longer.

This was a widget from greentoe.com that was causing the issue. They have since updated it. The widgets SSL expired on the widget (which isn't ours).
