brian_ellis3
I recently purchased the above lens. I now find out to my dismay that the Schneider center filter for it costs about $650 if you can believe that. I have no intention of paying that kind of money for a center filter, I'll sell the lens if necessary before doing that. But I was wondering whether anyone here successfully uses a different brand center filter with this lens and, if so, what brand is it and how much did it cost? Thanks. aaron_rocky
I'll buy it now for $800:) Well, I heard Robert White in UK 'secure' a great deal on Hoya center filters, much much less expensive than schneider.
david_bradley1
That price is crazy! Badger Graphic sells it for $295.
michael_briggs2
Badger Graphic Sales sells the Schneider IIIb center filter for the 80 mm Super-Symmar-XL for only $295 -- much more reasonable. This is probably a grey market item.
daniel_blakeslee
Both Badger Graphic and B&H have the filter for less than $300. The same center filter is used for four of Schneider's wide angle lenses including the wonderful 110XL Super Symmar.
upscan
Brian: Somehow you got the price wrong. The Robert White price for the Schneider Center filter 3B is 160 pounds, which is $251.00 at today´s rate. The 3B is the filter for the SS XL 80. brian_ellis3
Thanks for the responses. The $650 cost was the cost given to me by Schneider. Obviously retailers discount it a lot.
