Car Show: Kodak Retina IIIc + Kodak TMAX 400

Recommended Posts

A few old cars showed up at the Tacoma Dome (WA) for some guys occasional club meeting. I was riding by on my bike with the Retina loaded up with TMAX, and rolled around on the grass to get the following. Enjoy!
I'll post by car type, beginning with the Chevy Bel Air:
That's all folks!

I'm getting into this B&W stuff. I got back four rolls this week, each of which is loaded with good stuff. These are just the best of the car shots. :-) More to follow on other days and in the weekly CMC threads.....

Yes, you can't beat shiny cars pics with B&W film, and you have a great selection here Brad, especially love the first pic. Your Retina does a classy job, and I do like those low angles, very interesting.
I like to get low too, but it's not a good look when I try to get back up :) Thanks for the post.

Born for B&W... As Tony noted, gleaming paintwork and chrome just translate so well into monochrome, and your dramatic viewpoints in combination with your strong sense of composition have created a great series. There's just so much to photograph on a classic car... A very enjoyable post, many thanks, Brad.

I'm late to the thread, but that's great work, Brad! Good job photographing these cars with the Retina from about the same period. You've managed to compose these well while excluding stray humans (other than reflected ones). At car shows it can be challenging to balance those two competing priorities.
There's something just photographically irresistible about a Bel Air fin, isn't there? A few years ago, I made a picture that is almost exactly the mirror image of your first one. (By mirror image, I mean the fin on the other side of the car, obviously not a vertically inverted Bel Air! I was about to write, "on the passenger side of the car," but then remembered how many readers we have here from right-hand drive countries, so that wasn't going to be helpful.)

Brad:
Fantastic grab shots! Great job with a vintage 50's Kodak and TMAX400 which is also my B&W film of choice for both travel and portrait photography...I love the stand out quality of the chrome bumpers and trim...
Just got back from Italy...I didn't shoot any B&W and regret not doing so. I was driving around Tuscany and Umbria i.e between Florence and Perugia and now see that the medieval buildings would have been captured beautifully with TMAX 400 or 100..
