radfordneal
I've just noticed that some images I've worked onin Capture NX (version 1.1), where I've applied Noise Reduction (Better Quality) get saved as TIFfiles in a noisier form than is seen on the screen. That is, if I save the file as a 16-bit TIF, then openit up in Capture NX again, to compare side-by-sidewith the image I saved, there is an obvious difference. This doesn't happen if I save it as a NEF file, butthen it takes ages to reapply the noise reductionwhen it loads. (And of course one needs to save assomething other than NEF if other people are to lookat the image.) This makes the noise reduction option completelyuseless. Has anyone else noticed this problem? Is there a work-around?
pierre_levasseur
I'll try to find a way cause I'm of the few that works with Capture NX. Also, I contacted Nikon support and i let you know their answers ASAP : Your Question has been Submitted The reference number for your question is '070702-000595'. radfordneal
Further investigation shows that this doesn't always happen. It seems that it's some interaction with doing other things too. (Also, note that my original files are 16-bit TIFs, not raw NEF files.) So I think that the workaround is to do noise reduction first, save the results, and then work on this noise-reduced version. That may be desirable anyway, since the noise reduction is very slow, so one would want to do it only once, rather than over and over.
