ive just purchased a canonflex rm i believe it it by the printing

on the camera.. it came with a focal 135 auto (green A) lens.. it

wont close down to the apeture setting when fired.. the lens works

on a cannon Fb (i think if i remember the model right) . the fb also

used fd lenses.. in inards look like the canonflex may use a

different kind of lens.. theowner said it took good picutres but

didnt even know how to use the meter.. may have been shooting in wide

open and luckily using correct time.. does anyone know what lens

this should have or is the camera broken?? have any suggestions,

parden me for also posting this on the 35 mm page..any info on this

camera would also help.. dave..

The meter used a detachable selenium cell. Have you got this as well, it would be to the left of the front plate as you look at the camera. I'm not quite sure how this works in practice but it will tell you the aperture you require for the shutter speed you have set.

The camera used 'super-canomatic' branded lenses which I believe differ in a number of ways from the later early Fd lenses. The lens did though feature a fully automatic diaphram and if working correctly would close down when you press the shutter.

It's an interesting old camera though, the Canon Flex RM was only the second Japenese SLR camera to have a built in meter. (The Konica F was the first)

On the RM, the meter isn't detachable. You simply set the required shutter speed and this alters the meter's scale. The meter's needle then points to the required aperture.

The RM cannot be used with FD lenses. The diaphragm lever is totally different even though the mount is the same. As already mentioned, you need to find Canon R lenses.
