scil_concepts
If I mail my Rebel XT back to Canon for warranty work, what all do I need to put in the package?
jo7hs2
The answer to this question is on the Canon website, specific to the repair center you will be shipping it to. Usually it consists of a form detailing the camera information and the problem, as well as your address information, as well as the camera itself. They ask that you only send accessories related to the problem. On a side note, I have recently had a terrible experience with the Canon service center in New Jersey, so I recommend you send it to the California site if you are in the US. They lost my information, so the camera was lost in the system, then they failed to contact me AT ALL, and finally, once repairs were completed, they sent a letter for my lens (which was fine but part of problem) stating that I owed nothing, but did not send one for my Camera, so I thought they messed up again. Almost a month later and I still don't have my camera, and it was a paid repair. I should get it back Monday. Oh, and they lied and said they sent it overnight, but it was 2-day according to Fedex. Make sure you rubber band your information to your camera. Joshua Szuleckihttp://waterfalls.szulecki.com
jo7hs2
I should clarify that they failed to contact me after they had my information, not before... Joshua Szulecki
scil_concepts
The Canon form states verbatim "Please be sure to include yoru bill of sale or warranty card for warranty service." Should I include the Warranty Card, Bill of Sale, Both? What did you send your camera with? PS I appreciate the reply!
james_fox4
I sent my 5D back recently. Sent photocopies of both documents and sent it with a tracking number. I sent it to NJ without incident. Though, they fixed the issue without telling me what exactly was causing it.
jo7hs2
Mine wasn't a warranty repair, so I cannot be 100% certain, but I would include the original of one, and a copy of the other, so you still have one original, and a copy of the other for yourself. As in, send them the original card and a copy of the bill of sale, retaining the original bill of sale, and a copy of the card. But, for a warranty repair, I'd wait until Monday and call Canon to make sure, if possible. Joshua Szulecki
jo7hs2
Make sure you get shipping insurance and tracking with it. I'd send it UPS or FEDEX for the better tracking. USPS tracking is way to spotty and delayed for my taste. Joshua Szulecki
james_fox4
Mine was warranty work and I only sent photo copies. I would not send originals. Paper is the easies thing to lose. If you feel the need to send originals, I would make copies to use the next time when you don't get the originals back. Regards.
jo7hs2
James, I said original copies because many places request the original copies. If photocopies work for Canon, then by all means, don't risk the originals. Joshua Szulecki
jo7hs2
Well, I got my camera back from Canon NJ, and while their handling staff might be incompetant, their repair folks certainly are not. My camera is properly repaired, including scratched plastic, and they even cleaned it up for me. I'd say they redeemed themselves.
em1310
Dont forget to make a note of your serial number of your body (and lens if you send it)
jo7hs2
Also, make a copy (if possible) of the paperwork you send to canon, in addition to writing down your serial number somewhere else.
