It's Thursday again! I'm starting to like Thursdays more than I used to. I used to look forward to Friday since its the end of the work week, and I still do, but now that we have our Thursday thread we can all look forward to the last two days of the week. Old man winter is here to stay, at least in Indiana, and with the temperatures dropping and the days getting shorter its getting harder and harder to get out and shoot. This week's photo was one I snapped of this morning with the few spare minutes I had before work.

Like I said, I shot this guy this morning before heading out. The birds are all over our yard, and they're especially active in the mornings. I hadn't shot anything this week so I grabbed the camera and fired off a few shots. After doing some reading in my Audubon Society Field Guide, I learned that this is a White-Crowned Sparrow, which winters here in the U.S. Apparently this is a favorite of bird watchers and lab scientists alike as much of what we know about bird migration comes from lab experiments involving this species. I also felt a little more accomplished after reading that the White-Crowned Sparrow is much less numerous here in the east than the similar White-Throated Sparrow. But just as I get excited about my morning photo op, I see the photos my soon to be mother in law shot of a Barred Owl that was perched literally feet from the road on her mail route today.

00XrZm-311721684.jpg.31f565d43fe535cebbd292d7aa9aaa92.jpg

@Brad, perfect timing! I decided to try to put to use the Photomatrix software that I had purchased several months back; a new version was released before I got into the mood! Canon 40D, Canon EFS17-55, f2.8, shutter 1/125 (and +-2), tripod mounted. Used the tone mapping method. <a title="Abs101212_23_1_2_tm by pksswat (Praveen), on Flickr" href=" Abs101212_23_1_2_tm src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5202/5263593472_e77b1a9f7d_z.jpg" alt="Abs101212_23_1_2_tm" width="640" height="427" />

Here's another taken at the Lawrence Old Fasion Christmas Parade. No motorized vehicles, all horse drawn. Temp was 30 degrees with 40MPH wind, boy it was cold. we shot for three hours.

00Xrcc-311757584.jpg.87997cd237c471d5181400488034afd6.jpg

Well the cold has set in here in Connecticut but no snow to speak of yet. My pic this week is of my boys talking with Santa at a special "Dinner with Santa at Yankee Candle". This was my oldest telling Santa about a toy that he wanted and Santa was explaining to him how those high tech gadgets are a favorite of his elves. He told him to check the batteries when he opens it as the elves tend to play with them A LOT before they wrap them up. :-)

Great photos, I particularly like Nathan's, Karen's and Lupo's.

This photo was a mistake, taken in bright sunlight before I had corrected my settings, resulting in massive over exposure. The end result however, with a little PS manipulation is interesting and appeals to me.
