joshroot
Has anyone found an Canon (or third party) solution for converting RAW files in OS X? Please don't suggest using "native" mode for OS 9.x or whatever. That is really really slow on my Ibook, and I've got the RAM maxed out. In fact, I'd love to get os 9 completely off my computer and just use X. ellis_vener_photography
Hey Josh!
I don't know if you have seen this but maybe this might be of some help.
Good luck. Nikon just released their OS X compliant software last week. Canon probably isn't more than six months away with theirs.
Has anybody ever tried using Canon RAW files with Nikon software or vice versa? Did anything happen? Good , bad or just nothing? teichman
iView MediaPro has some support for Canon's raw files. It looks like you can only preview them at a lower resolution (1440x960), but it would allow you to do more of the process in OS X.

The main site is here, and the Canon FAQ is here.

It does look like the only conversion solution is Canon's Raw Image Converter running in Classic for now.

stevierose
Besides the JCRW link above (which I just found out about on this forum!) I am unaware of any OS X Canon Raw file converters made by Canon or anyone else. For that matter, I don't think that there are any OS 9 raw converters except for the Canon software. Given the large number of folks who use Macs for digital darkroom work this seems strange to me.
chris russ
Heck, if someone could get me some details on the Canon RAW format, I'll write the stinking Photoshop plug-in. (That and some test images - before and after - to play with.) That is, unless they did something really freaky in the format. -Chris Russ http://reindeergraphics.com
