khitrovg
Dear PN, I need an advise. I am shooting a wedding this weekend and my vivtar 283 just died on me. I have tried my Canon 550EX and it seems to fire. Do you think I can use it in the manual mode? Any advice? Sincerely,Greg
steve_levine
The only Canon I own is a 1969 TL/QL,so Im not an expert on them. However, can I assume the flash has an "auto" setting? This usually requires you set the film speed and the f stop, and the flashes' sensor controls the light. This is much the same as your Vivitar. In this mode almost any flash can work automatically, with any camera that it can sync to. awindsor
You can indeed. I use my 550EX on my SQAi. I cannot mount it directly on the camera however since the outer pins have no ramp to slide up and lock against the side of the hotshoe on my speedgrip. I got around this by using a cord. I also experimented with a piece of plastic which only lets the central pin through. If you don't have a hotshoe then you will need a PC to hotshoe adaptor for the bottom of the flash. Whatever hotshoe you have ensure that only the central pin engages the central contact. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the hotshoe on my speedgrip. Hope that helps, Alistair
