russ_britt3
I lucked upon a canon 50 macro ssc lens on ebay a few months ago for just $30 dollars with lens hood. It works great on my F1. It was missing the life size adapter.
Well that was okay, the lens is sharp as a tack and gets pretty close without the adapter.
Well guess what arrived in the mail today? A life size adapter........I won it on ebay two days ago for $10 dollars. Life is good, back in the day this combo was around $300 if I remember correctly?
Keep looking bargains are out there........sometimes.
SCL
Yeah! One of my favorite lenses in the FD lineup. Lucky man. BTW if you find any haze on the lens, the rear element is easy to remove, clean and reassemble; the front element, IMHO is impossible to do anything with.
dave_s
IIRC, I paid about $340 CDN retail for a 50/3.5 macro FDn in 1981. Using an inflation calculator, this equates to about $860 in 2011 dollars.

I probably could have saved 10 or 15% if I had bought it from one of the New York discounters, but any way you cut it this was a fairly expensive lens 30 years ago. It is crazy that you can buy a piece of glass this good for fifty bucks now.
leicaglow
It is truly a bargain of a lens, as is the old 55mm Nikkor.
Lou_Meluso
A super deal on one of the best 50mm lenses ever. You hardly need a lens hood with it unless you want to use filters on it. Good luck with it, lucky dude.
philip_wilson
The 50 F3.5 is an amazing lens (mine is the newer FDn). I tried mine on a Panasonic G1 using an adaptor and you get an amazingly sharp 100mm equivalent portrait lens.
billangel
I utilized an earlier version of the lens, the Canon FL 50mm F3.5 Macro, both for taking pictures and also mounted on my enlarger for making prints. I think it's still worth acquiring for either purpose.
jeff_falk
I just got one of these lenses too. I am very pleased with it. It did not come with the user's guide and I am not too familiar with all the markings on the lens. Anyone know where a copy of this manual is posted?

Thanks.
