JDMvW
The hardest part of taking a zoom lens apart, is getting it back together again. If you do get it apart, photograph every stage of disassembly, and mark how the helicals go together.....

Additionally, the fungus may well have etched the lens surfaces, so cleaning is not guaranteed to restore the lens. If you can kill the fungus so it stops growing (UV?) you may want to try shooting with it as it is. Sometimes the results can be surprising, as I found out with a badly overgrown mirror lens.

Depending on the moon phase, or some such variable, the eBay "sold" prices of versions of this lens sell for less than a hundred dollars to another mode at around $200-300. My first eBay purchase was to replace a fungus-infested lens that no camera repair person around here would touch. But that's another story....

mark_pierlot
Just take it in to a qualified technician, Paulo. Or, as JDM is suggesting, look for another copy. It's a stellar lens.
Alex_Es
Do have it cleaned. And get another lens like it. You might use the first lens with teleconverter.
Bill C1664885404
I've salivated over an FD 80-200 4.0 "L" for some time...mint / excellent conditions ones seem to go in the $350 - $400 range.
Don't want to put any more 'extra' money into the hobby than I need, and this would definitely be a 'want' instead of a 'need'...LOL...so I'd have to do something like sell a spare FD 300/4.0 first, maybe some other lens I rarely use, etc
Bill C1664885404
I've got to stop reading forums...LOL...this thread pushed me over the top !

I bit the bullet and finally got an FD 80-200.4.0-L ...found one for sale by a dealer I've bought a couple lenses from in the past.
So far his descriptions have always been 100% accurate...his description of this one is:

Excellent + condition!
Body lens: Little sign of use, no dents, no dings
Optically: Light dust, no scratches, no haze, no fungus
Focus and zoom: Smooth
Aperture blades: Clean, oil free, working properly

Been wanting one of these for a long time, hope it lives up to it's reputation.
Bill C1664885404
OK, most of my hunting season is over...re-focusing (no pun intended) on photography...had a chance to test the new Canon FD 80-200/4.0 L lens I picked up in December.
Shot this Cardinal hand held, through a Skylight filter, through the kitchen window, through the storm window, and still got great detail...looks like the lens is a keeper as far as I'm concerned.
