photo11
Fellow Photographers: I Have the Canon FD 500mm f8 Reflex lens. My question is that when you rotate the lens in to the lock position there is quite a bit of play in the back and forth movement, I have been told that this is acceptable, but when you remove the drop in filter you can see the lock mechanism, when you rotate the lock part you can see the very small screws move up and down does any body have the same lens like this or can I remove the back of the mount and tighten up the screws my self, and if possible how do you take of the back mount. Appreciate any help as the lens has had very little use. Kind regards. Mike
alan_swartz
Mike, This is a non-answer, I'm afraid. Do you have the breechlock or "new" version of this lens? I have the new version, and both the camera mounting lock and the rotating-barrel lock are quite tight. I can see nothing of the camera mount lock through the filter slot. All I see of the rotation lock is the piece into which the lock tab fits. It has screws. I'm not sure which of the two mechanisms you're referring to. My main reason in responding is to say that this mount is unique among all the FD lenses, what with the rotating part and the lack of diaphragm levers. That's probably why you've not received a response. If you're courageous about tearing into it, the good news probably is that this mount is simpler than the others. photo11
Alen, Thanks for taking the time to responded to FD Canon 500mm lens problem, as it turn out the hole lens had to be dismantled in order to get to the screws that hold the lock rotating mechanism together. Again thank you for you help I appreciate that. Best regards. Mike.
