photo11
Fellow Photographers: I Have the Canon FD 500mm f8 Reflex lens. My question is that I would like to fit a front filter to the lens but I am unable to find a source that makes this particular size, on my original front lens screw on cap reads in side 83PO.75 I have tried 82mm but its approx 1mm shy of the right fit. The reason that I wish to put a front filter is that a live in Southern Nevada and it can get real wild with the sand storms here. Appreciate any help Regards. Mike. awahlster
I think the best bet if you have to have a filter on the front of your mirror will be to have an adapter made from 83mm down to 82mm or up to 86mm as You won't find a 83. I would make sure that the machine shop have both the filter and your cap to work from. Check the yellow pages for a small machine shop. There are photographic specialist machine shops but you might be able to have one made local for less. Ask around at the local model airplane of train hobby shop as well. pensacolaphoto
Hi Mike, Use the longest lens hood possible that does not vignette the images. This could be an alternative way to protect the lens against dust (somehow). Or, you may try to fit a rubberband around the 82mm and "squeeze" the filter into the 83mm frame. john_tribe
Use a 82mm filter and secure it using electrical tape, sounds cheap and nasty I know, but it's a practical solution... John
