felix_mizioznikov
Just got call from canon. They said canon's tech and development is now working on a firmward to solve for the "black dot phenominum", they did not say how long it would take to complete but that is how they will solve the problem.
bobatkins
They've been saying that for a while now. It appears that the "black dot" fix will indeed be a firmware update. See the letter from Canon at the bottom of this page http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/digital/eos_5D2_black_dots.html

Looks like they're also working on a fix for a banding issue that some users have seen when using the sRAW1 format.

None of this is particularly surprising. Pretty much every camera gets firmware updates after release to cure the bugs that they find.
HenryUK
Almost every DSLR gets firmware updates. And quite right too.

Canon appear to have stopped releasing firmware updates for P&S digital cameras. I suspect they're annoyed about CHDK unlocking all sorts of nice features, so they're witholding firmware releases. They are updating firmware through the life of a model, just not making it available publicly. It appears to me that the consumer is being denied bug fixes as a result of this.

Henry
ronno
The banding issue is not just for sRAW. Canon have also acknowledged that Highlight Tone Priority causes banding. (it does not cause banding in the 1Ds3 camera...)
http://www.afashionshooter.com/2008/12/20/5d2-af-in-dim-light/
