Canon 5d2 black dot firmware solution

<p>They've been saying that for a while now. It appears that the "black dot" fix will indeed be a firmware update. <p>Looks like they're also working on a fix for a banding issue that some users have seen when using the sRAW1 format.</p>

<p>None of this is particularly surprising. Pretty much every camera gets firmware updates after release to cure the bugs that they find.</p>

<p>Canon appear to have stopped releasing firmware updates for P&S digital cameras. I suspect they're annoyed about CHDK unlocking all sorts of nice features, so they're witholding firmware releases. They are updating firmware through the life of a model, just not making it available publicly. It appears to me that the consumer is being denied bug fixes as a result of this.</p>
