Canon 430EZ flash ok with Elan IIE?

I have a 430EZ flash that is somewhat incompatible with an EOS 620. It's viewfinder readout for shutter speed and f-stop flash continually,

altho pictures seem fairly well exposed, but I have a feeling this

duo is incompatible with each other. I have just purchased an Elan IIE,

and while I realize it has built-in flash, for the occasional time when I might need off-camera flash, bounce flash or just more flash power,

is there any problem using the 430EZ with the Elan IIE?

Thanks for any info!

Is that why the f-stop and shutter-speed lights flash continually

when the 430EZ is used with the 620? What needs to be done to get

correct exposure, either fill flash or straight flash?
