Canon 400mm 2.8 III worth extra $3,000

  1. Hello,

I am going to pull a trigger a Canon 400mm 2.8 II but the new version III just came out and cost $3,000 extra. Is it worth extra $3,000 to go with Version III?

Anyone using V. II or III please advise.

    Thank you,
  2. Optical performance is very similar however the reduced weight of 1 kg is astonishing. My concern is where did they get the weight reduction from and if it is going to have a negative affect on the build of the lens over time. While the electric manual focus should be an improvement be sure to handle both to evaluate the actual effectiveness.

  4. I got the old Canon EF 100-400mm, after the reviews were out on the new one. That way I had some idea (such as you are trying to gather here) that the newer one did not involve features or performance that were critical to me.
Sometimes being "trailing edge" can save a lot, if you don't need the new features....

    here is the LensRental teardown:

  5. Thank you.
  6. How long do you want to keep it for? I have mark 2 when my mark1 could not be serviced by canon. The mark 3 is lighter but is 12K in price.
