benjamin teoh
I have read that there was a problem with this lens and it had to be recall by Canon. However, I am not sure what the problem was, and whether it has all been rectified. What do I need to check when I get one of this lens to make sure that those with the problem are still not been circulated in the market?

pjmeade
The chances of getting one of those first batch is slim but the link from Yakim gives the number to look for. The lens is excellent, I have no complaints with mine. P
paul -
Our early copy is of the "recall" batch, and we have never experienced the flare (and we tried our best to find it), so we didn't send it in for "repair" or trade for a newer copy after they were re-released.<P>Don't worry about it. In the extremely unlikely event you buy an early, affected copy, Canon will "fix" it free. If memory serves, Canon told us all they do is add/replace an internal baffle or some such insignificant thing. It's not like there were optical defects or anything like that.
