garry edwards
Situation: Just trying to get to grips with a brand new PC running on XP Pro, fast processor, 4Gb Ram, loads of disk storage. For some reason CS2 won't recognise it's own serial No. so I've reinstalled CS. Memory allocation set to 85%. Problem: Getting an error message when I try to open a single 12.6Mb raw file - Could not meet your request because there is not enough memory (RAM) Does anyone know where I'm going wrong please? Mike Howard
Could it be asking about Video RAM? On this new computer, is the video board built into the motherboard, and if so, how much memory is shared for video?
phoneguy
Did you try backing the Ram allocation down from the 85%...Try 60% and see what it does?
garry edwards
Thanks for the answers. Turning the allocation down from 85% to 50% did the trick, although I have no idea why it can't cope with more RAM... I'll try experimenting with it to get the optimum allocation, but meanwhile I can get on with my work.
martin_howard1
PS CS2 can only address 2Gb of RAM directly, this is a limitation of 32bit windows platforms. MAC's & windows 64 editions can address around 3.5 Gb. details on a fix to allow 3Gb to be addressed can be found here
pturton
If you add the 3GB switch to your boot.ini file CS2 will address more than 2GB RAM. Google "/3gb boot.ini"
phoneguy
Paul, does the 3GB switch work in XP Home edition, or only XP Pro?
garry edwards
Well, I've got the answer to my question - and many thanks for that - but could someone please give me an idiots guide to how I actually set the 3GB switch?
phoneguy
Here's the easy guide It appears that you must have XP Pro, w/ SP2 (Service Pack 2) installed. It doesn't appear that it can be done on other versions of XP, but I'm still looking into it.
