ross_wilson1
Hi, I just bought a used 50mm 1.4 Summilux. The aperture ring is a little (and I mean almost unnoticeable) bit wobbly, that is not my issue but it may be linked to the fact that when turning the ring, it feels no where near as well constructed as my older Summicron f2. It feels more like the aperture on an old Nikon lens. Is this something that can be made better? Also the focus is stiff, can this be made less stiff? Just thought I'd ask before I bothered to send it off, ether way I can certainly live with the issues if they're stuck like that. Thanks Ross
frederick_muller
Technical guru Huw Finney recommended dripping 3-in-1 oil in the back of the focusing helicoid in small doses, then working the focus ring back and forth. I can report this technique happily mellowed out a couple of my lenses. It's just a matter of adding a little lubricant, and breaking up some of the old, gummed up grease inside. Don't know of any non-invasive way to tighten up an aperture ring yourself. My two cents worth is that if you are going to send it in anyway, you may as well get them to look at both issues at once because the incremental cost won't be that high. 35mmdelux
I'd send it in for CLA and tightening. The ap ring on mine is snappy without wobble and my focusing is veery smooth.
