If you don't have one, then that would be a real good thing to get, so you'll get very specific to your camera answers. Sometimes you can find the user manuals even on line. So doing a Google for one might be a great first step. Almost all of the Canon cameras have user manuals available on the Canon web site. Free! A might be Aperture priority, or it might be Auto, both are common uses of the symbol A, so the camera type is real important and the read-the-manual comment is a good start.
