chiba
I just purchased a 6x9 field camera and could use some help in identifying it. It's a nicely made little thing and to be honest I'm not too bothered about who made it, just curious more than anything. Any ideas?<div></div>
Troll
No. But it's cute.

robert_kennedy
I dunno, but it looks great! I'm jealous! I love the beauty of wood cameras. What size is the lens board? That might help (or it might not).
light-zone
The hardware looks the same as the Tachihara.
ruud_knulst
GavinI'm not 100% shure but I think it's a Shirom. Regards, Ruud
chiba
Here's another photo if it'll help. Lens is a Schneider 100mm f/5.6.<div></div>
joe_lipka3
A lot of the hardware looks like my "old" (1980's) Wista Field 45. It is a cute little camera. If you feed it the proper film and take care of it, someday it might grow up to be a nice 8 x 10 8)
skygzr
I know Ebony makes a 2x3, but I don't think that's an Ebony. When you mount the film holder, does the ground glass swing out of the way or pop off?
pete_andrews
Looks like a custom Wista. I'm surprised there's not a nameplate or label on it somewhere.<br>It's certainly not very old. Post 1980 I'd guess.

wayne_crider4
The front bed extension knob looks like a Horseman Woodfield arrangement.
paul_owen
Possibly one of John Nesbitts'? It does bear an uncanny resemblance to a Wista though!! Very nice!!
sal_santamaura
Yup, looks like a Shirom. The back isn't reversible, is it? Need to flip the entire camera for horizontals? Shirom.
sal_santamaura
Err, meant "flip the entire camera for verticals."
ruud_knulst
It's 100% a Shirom.

chiba
Thanks very much for all the help! Looks indeed like it's a Shirom. There's next to nothing about it on the web, but as summarised above it's a bit restricted in what it can do, namely only horizontals and a small range of movements, but hopefully it's still a great addition to my collection. Main advantage is it's so very light, unlike my 4x5 and associated bag of tricks which wore holes in me last week as I lugged it around Kyoto, Nara and Himeji. Better a lightweight but limited camera that goes out with me than a do everything one that stays at home because of weight issues, eh? Hmm, I think I might got and start a weight thread now...
