robert_bowring
In photo #1 you will see something in the street at the lower left. Photo #2 was taken right after photo #1 and there is nothing in the street. Can anyone tell me what that is in photo #1? I have blown it up and can not identify what it is. rodeo_joe1
It looks like that ubiquitous animal Saccus Nigrans rapidly scuttling across the road, accompanied by some of its smaller albino relatives. Must have been travelling pretty fast by the motion blur.

robert_bowring
I did not know that they were native to the Isle of Man. They were moving so fast I did not even see them until I looked at the pictures a few days later.

robert_bowring
Seriously folks, can anyone identify those objects and explain how they got in my photo. They were not there when I took the picture. Some people have suggested that it is a reflection of something but it appears to be a solid object not a reflection. I can’t figure out what it is and how it got there.
digitaldog
Nearly impossible to provide an accurate answer without having access to the raw (ideally in something like Dropbox). Glenn McCreery
The top image shows the wall displaced to the right of where the black object is, and the sidewalk and street blurred at the same vertical position in the frame; this should be a clue of some sort. The black object looks perhaps like a trash bag blowing across the street with contents falling out, but then it should probably be visible in the bottom photo. I agree with JDM, it's due to hypoglycemia - oh wait, that's a different forum. Edited September 16, 2022 by Glenn McCreery
steve_gallimore1
Photo 1 looks like a stitch of two frames, look at the centre line of the road and the wall on the right. Could be anything, even a car, you often see this kind of stitching error on Google Street View. Taken with electronic shutter?
robert_bowring
Took the picture with my phone. I don’t know what “stitching” is so I don’t think that’s right. Not a garbage bag either. I would have seen that if it was there.
robert_bowring
I never noticed the misalignment in the the top and bottom of picture #1. That is really strange. How could that happen. Maybe I caught an image of a car or a motorcycle right in the middle?
rodeo_joe1
Well, there's obviously a few seconds difference in the time of the shots, since neither of the vehicles seen in #1 are visible in #2. IMO it's simply a black bin bag blowing across the road, and some phone cameras will do an automatic stitch in panorama mode. It's also easy to miss what's right in front of you when staring at the small screen of a phone or camera.

Sanford
What was the shutter speed?
robert_bowring
It is an iphone. Dont know what the shutter speed was. I really don't know much about digital photography and this was one of the first times I really used the phone camera. It looks like I have a lot to learn. Maybe I should just stick to my good old Nikon F.
digitaldog
If you view your iPhone shot in Apple Photos do you see the icon for Live Photo? Upper top left, says “Live”? JDMvW
As he has an annoying tendency to do ;), I think Rodeo Joe is right. Bags blowing or if you are superstitious, a mystical phenomenon. rodeo_joe1
That 1st picture gets stranger the closer I look at it. It's at least a 3 part stitch. Examine the shadow of the overhead cable, and the dotted yellow road marking. The shadow is split into at least 3 discontinuities, and the yellow lane marking is offset by about 2 feet at the point where the rubbish(?) is smudged. If an iPhone camera can do that unbidden, then I'm glad I have a humble Android phone! Rolling shutter? How long does the electronic traverse take in bright daylight, for goodness sake? The camera would have had to be waved like a flag! And why the jaunty angle? A premature and unintended shutter press perhaps?

digitaldog
Rolling shutter? How long does the electronic traverse take in bright daylight, for goodness sake? The camera would have had to be waved like a flag! Depends on a number of possible settings on the iPhone (which you may not be fully aware of). But again, without a raw, which CAN be exported from Photos for us to examine, I'm kind of done with this silly game of speculating for those not too familiar with how this camera might work. ;) Author “Color Management for Photographers" & "Photoshop CC Color Management" (pluralsight.com)
