kokenoto_jimmy
Hello, I am a student who is currently taking Socials Studies Summer School. My teacher had assgned a project on Popular Entertainment between 1955 to 1964. My job is to pick an entertainment in Canada and I've chosen Photo Cameras. I had searched on the net on cameras between 1955 to 1964, but most of them just gave me the photographer's name. I would like to know if you can provide my any information on what type of cameras were used during that time and did many people own one? Was it a popular usage back then? Can most people afford one? I had looked at a page on the history of camera but it only tells me about camera obscura, which is a black room with a hole that creates an inverted scene. And then it tells about how inventers created chemical to fix an image and stuff. But it skipped the periods from 1940s. Thank You for all your time and hope I am not bothering your time. jonathan_bundick
Kokenoto Almost any film format currently avaialbe was available between 1955 and 1964. My father used an Agfa Karat (35mm Range finder) that is still operational today. Here are a few WEB sites that might be of help in completing your project. http://www.graflex.org/ http://people.smu.edu/rmonagha/mf/ I don't know about price, and affordability. colin carron
I think you will need to spend some time searching web sites or better still looking for relevant books. You have chosen a big subject so why not start off by getting hold of as many camera history websites as possible. I do not know about Canada so cannot help you specifically. But for instance if you stick 'camera history' into google one of the first sites which comes up is Kodak which gives models, dates, prices etc. http://www.kodak.com/global/en/consumer/products/techInfo/aa13/aa13.shtml You then need to get a wider picture of how photography related to society in general. More googling I should imagine. Try a few things and see what pops up. Incidentally this is one of the more obscure, specialist forums. Why not try your question in the 'general(non archived)' forum. interesting subject. good luck !
