camera chronology & a surprise

I am not a camera collector. However I am a great admirer of classic (photographic and other) technology and thus I always view this page on Pnet with great interest.

I purchased my first camera (used Agfa Karat) 68 years ago. I still have that camera; but it hasn't been out of the closet for years. When I get around to it I must make a separate post for that camera.

Eight years later I found a lovely Contax IIa with a Zeiss Opton 50/1.5 in the PX in Korea. That took a nice chunk of my army pay. However the cost was well amortized; I used that camera, almost exclusively, for the next 30 years. The difficulty of finding and using other lenses with that RF camera, plus my somewhat healthier pocketbook, set me in search of a SLR. I maintained my loyalty to Contax by getting a 139Q (with a very shabby coat that kept the price low) and a couple of Zeiss lenses.

A few more years down the road I felt the need for a second (or backup) body which also allowed me to shoot color in one and B&W in the other. I found a Yashica FX-D (complete with a 135/2.8 no-name lens) on the auction site. A fairly low bid made it mine.

It is interesting that the camera is completely unbadged with regard to the model designation.

Fast forward a couple more years and I found a Contax RTS-II on auction, and I was able to have it at a price too low to resist. I repeat, I am not a camera collector and this made the Yashica really redundant. So we come to the real purpose of this post.

I will be happy to send the Yashica + lens (Korean made CPC 135/2.8), postage paid in the lower 48, to anyone who will give it a good home and take it out for excersize now and then. Keep in mind that it will happily mount any Zeiss C/Y lenses you happen to have lying around. The third person to e-mail me (via Pnet contact) will be the winner.

In the interest of full disclosure, 6 years ago I did succumb to the siren song of digital. I still use all of the Contaxes for about a third of my photographs.

Interesting that the model "FX D" isn't on the body?? A collector's item probably!

Just a wild guess: at some point the top cover was replaced with a part shared by different models, hence the absence of designation.
