Camera at 90 degree angle with lens mount

<p>My 500mm Nikon reflex has again perplexed me. Why does the camera attach to the lens at a 90 degree angle to the lens tripod mount? The camera is almost vertical.</p>

<p>Er, on the 500mm F8 there is a small knob on the side of the tripod mounting ring that, when loosened, will allow you to rotate the camera to a normal position. If I understand your question.</p>

<p>I confess when I visualized "the camera attaches to the lens at a 90 degree angle" I see something better suited for candids :-)</p>
