Christa Binder
I am going to buy a cable shutter release on ebay, I am wondering if they have a universal fit, or is there a certain brand I need. I own a Canon 350D/Rebel Xt. Thanks for any help.
Christa Binder
I meant shutter release cable, oops! Thanks again for any suggestions.
Matt Laur
The configuration is common across several Canon cameras, but not universal (in a generic, all-cameras way) at all. Still, it doesn't have to be expensive. You can get the Opteka release for that body for under $15. You might find it for a few dollars less in an auction, but watch out for the inflated shipping and handling. Regardless, it's a great tool to have in the bag - a release is crucial macro work, portraits, and such. Happy shooting.
charles_stobbs3
There were some older cameras with a straight thread on the cable release fitting which took a straight threaded cable release, with many turns to attach/detach. Most modern ones, probably including yours have a tapered thread which attaches in about one half turn.

Charles_Webster
Um, Charles, the OP has a digital camera, the threaded mechanical releases don't work with modern digitals. To the OP, the cable releases for Canons are not all interchangable. Some use a 3/32" micro plug, others use a proprietary connector that resembles a USB mini-B connector. Check before ordering. <Chas>
NK Guy
Your camera does not, as mentioned above, have a threaded mechanical cable release. It uses a simple electrical cable and pushbutton. In particular your camera uses a 2.5mm stereo minijack, which Canon refer to as an "E3" plug.
http://photonotes.org/reviews/wired-remotes/
