royall_berndt
I've recently had trouble with SF saving negatives as negatives. I scan an image into the software, and the preview screen shows a positive image to work on. But when I save the file to my hard disk, it comes up a color negative. I can't fip it in Windows 11. Maddening. I can go back to the. SF screen and do a screen capture of that positive, but that's clumsy. What is wrong? I do set the software to work on a color negative, but I don't want the result to be negative also! BTW, I use a Plustek 8200i scanner. Ed_Ingold
You might be saving the scan as a RAW image, which in Silverfast means an uninverted TIFF. All the information which can be recorded from the scan is in that image. Everything else, including exposure and inversion, are done with image processing. Silverfast allows this so you can try different processing schemes without the need to rescan.
digitaldog
You do want SilverFast to invert and handle all this, NOT afterwards. I am a SilverFast users but I'm not currently hooked up to a scanner but could. However, the SilverFast Expert (guy wrote a book) is Mark Segal who's also a super nice fellow. Go to the Photopxl forum for scanning below, pop him a question, you'll get an answer ASAP: It’s back!! royall_berndt
Good book but you can also just ask there, he hangs there pretty much daily. Or PM me and I will give you his email address. It certainly is a good book, and it is clear the author has a precise and highly informed mind. I dont think I have ever read a classier book in the photography field. BTW, David Vestal also wrote at a high level. I had the honor of copy-editing one of his books, and he was stimulating to work with.
