albert_smith
I ran across a book in the local Barnes and Noble today. It is, JIM MARSHALL PROOF. This book would be of interest to anyone that knows Marshall?s work, but it has a twist over the usual photo books, which only show the cream of the crop. Each photo is presented as a stand- alone image, but on the facing page is the proof sheet in which that image was chosen as the one out of the rest. This makes for an interesting lesson on how Marshall works the scene. It is also is interesting how many of the non-keepers are pretty damn good. Also unusual are the 6X6 proofs. I thought he shot all 35mm, but not always apparently.
Anyone with as much gray hair as I have that likes the rock era from the 1960s into the 1970s will enjoy this book. There are also photos that would not normally be associated with Marshall, people not in the rock world, such as Cesar Chavez, but all with that same Marshall look. The book costs 40 Dollars in hard cover.
Just to stay on topic for this forum, in the first pages, there is a shot of Marshall?s gear laid out next to his Domke bag. Lots of Ms and an R.
