daniel_jansen
I just picked up one of these at a local thrift store. It is fully functionalbut included no manual. I am hoping someone might help me with a few questions. 1. Can I use 6x6 negatives with this enlarger? It only came with a 35mm carrier. 2. what is the drawer above the condensing lens for? 3. would it be practical to fashion a taller support arm for bigger enlargements? Thanks. david_dorcich1
The drawer above the condensing lens is for a contrast filter for use with variable graded papers.
david_dorcich1
Pretty sure that the t-35 is a 35 mm only enlarger, as are most enlargers with model numbers with a 35 in them. As for making a taller arm for larger prints, it can be done but you have to be sure that the fabricated arm stays orthogonal to the print plane at all time one thing to check is if you can reverse the column on the enlarger so that you can place your paper on the floor, thus enabling you to make larger prints. Some enlargers can also pivot the head 90 degrees to the side, another way to make larger prints.
frank.schifano
I just picked up one of these at a local thrift store. It is fully functional but included no manual. I am hoping someone might help me with a few questions. "1. Can I use 6x6 negatives with this enlarger? It only came with a 35mm carrier." No. 35mm only. "2. what is the drawer above the condensing lens for?" For color printing or variable contrast filters. The size you need is just under 3x3 in. If you need a set, get the 3x4 in. ones and cut them down a bit. "3. would it be practical to fashion a taller support arm for bigger enlargements?" Possible yes, practical no. The enlarger as it is, is not too stable with the head near the limit of its height. Raising even more would only exacerbate the problem. If you want an enlarger to acommodate larger negatives and to make bigger prints, get a bigger enlarger designed for the task. These days they sell for pennies on the dollar in the used market. IIRC, the head is not reversible for floor projection, no can it be rotated for wall projection.
daniel_jansen
Thanks all. I believe I will extend the arm if I keep it, my main concern was focus. I can see that the structure would have to be upgraded, but I'll weld a solid structure to replace the existing one as I want to mount it directly to a larger surface anyway. I am reluctant to measure the angle between the base and arm as the base is somewhat decayed. Is there a standard angle? Before I do this though, can anyone recommend a similarly compact simple and cheap enlarger for 6x6 negs?
david_dorcich1
You just need to keep the film and print-paper planes parallel. I've seen omega c700 for around $100 on craig's list. Its a sturdy enlarger that can handle up to 6x7 cm negs I use a Omega/LPL 670CXL that i have been very happy with. Keep in mind when you are looking that you can use color heads to do black & white wok as well. You shouldn't have much trouble finding what you need. daniel_jansen
I guess I forgot to mention I picked this up for $10. There probably isn't much in that price range though.
