adam_deglmann
I recently got a Bogen 808RC4 tripod head and have a quick question about the RC4 quick release plate. There are two threaded holes in the plate, one that fits the 1/4 inch mounting screw and one that fits the 3/8". What are these holes for? Is there something that can be mounted there to prevent camera rotation? Are they meant to hold the spare mounting screw which in turn prevents the camera from turning? I can't find any relevant documentation, so answers and guesses are both appreciated.
Ed_Ingold
Some cameras have 3/8-16 tripod sockets, most in the USA have 1/4-20 sockets. My Hasselblad has both whereas my Rollei TLR (European version) and Sinar F1 are 3/8 only.
Matthew Currie
The hex plates also have extra holes, sometimes threaded and sometimes not, depending on the model. I think the architectural plate (with an extra L-shaped base piece to prevent rotation) uses one of those holes. I'm guessing also that you could use them for special mounting of long lenses, etc. that would benefit from being attached by more than a single screw, either to prevent rotation or just to mount more firmly. Brad Cloven
A gentleman at National Camera in Minneapolis explained to me that the holes on the underside are for storing your extra screw. If you're using the smaller screw for your 35mm, you store the larger screw underneath. I suppose if your medium format camera uses the larger screw, you switch and store the smaller screw underneath.
Brad Cloven
How do you like the 808RC4? I'm considering buying it.
