With all the Dave Hill and Jill Greenburg looks, does anyone have an idea how

to create Mr Simone's look in PS apart from the great lighting. I'm looking to

convert one of my images. I have tried with the high pass, etc but can't nail

it. Is there anyone here who would like to share?

All these people are the same: high macrocontrast and equalized high saturation.

 

Start with a relatively flat image and sharpen with a large radius. To equalize the saturation you need to use a Vibrance tool or create a saturation mask by converting the image to HSB then using the inverted Saturation channel as a layer mask for the Hue/Saturation tool. This will allow you to increase the saturation without clipping colors that are already saturated.

Yes. Some of them appear to be straight out of the LucisArt tonemapping software, or possibly Photoshop's HDR feature. There are some other things going on too - saturation tweaks, etc. And, as you say, careful lighting.

<p>HSB = Hue Saturation Brightness. It's also called HSV (Hue Saturation Value).</p>
