  1. Quite a capture! is that mold the fly is standing on? Is the fly dead or chilled? I notice your shutter speed was 25 seconds.

    The fly is live, it was early in the morning so it was chilled. The yellowish things are Slime Molds (Protista not fungi).
  3. Thanks. I've sometimes captured bumblebees while they are still from cold, but I've never caught a fly that way. In any case, a great capture.

  5. This is a bit of a reversal from Rick's image. Here, a tick makes it's way through a forest of Stemonitis sp., another slime mold less than 1 inch tall. While I was focusing I kept noticing the "trees" (sporangia for those who care) moving around. Things shouldn't move around on an indoor shot. When I saw the tick I was equally grossed out and intrigued. It was certainly photo worthy.
