joe_margetts5
What do you guys think is the best Nikon combination you have ever used? Not just features but the nicest to use? My favourite is a FM3a with MD-12 and a 35mm F2AIS and SB-28 - just the nicest handling thing I have used. I wear glasses and have seen stuff suggesting the viewfinder is not good for glasses wearers but I have never had this problem. I also have an F4 which is good with 28-80af; good metering and it is a better viewfinder - AF slow but accurate. I also have an FM2a (not as good a manual film camera as my Canon F1n) and an old but mint FE which feels like the FM3a but does not work with a MD-12 (I don't know why, I've had it serviced and everything)and does not have the flash features of the FM3a. For everyday use though in the modern era there is little to fault with the D70 with 18-70 1:3.5-4.5G ED kit lens. This thing is so versatile compared with the film cameras - also works in manual very effectively with an SB28 - I find I can easily control the flash lighting for subtle flash effects and no problems with AI and AIS lenses. I have never had or used an F5 and would be interested to hear how you think this may compare - I've always thought it would be too big to carry around every day. Also F3 and D2-x have passed me by - any good? Joe

j.a.
O.K., I have to admit it, I am not a regularly Nikon's user, but there is one thing I would to say here : F-801 S body and a Nikkor zoom lens 28-70 f/2,8 did make me very happy for a couple of crazy months that I will never forget. Incredible combination. J.A.
loreneidahl
Film cameras: F3Hp/MD4/ - 35 1.4/ 50 1.2 or F2AS / 35 1.4 Digital: D2h / D2x - 28 - 70 2.
loreneidahl
I love the F5, however I cannot make it smaller that it is. But it sure kicks butt on just about every other camera. (I have the F4 but the ergomonics are not as good therefore it does get used.)
Ed_Ingold
The D2x, followed by the D2h. No other Nikons (the F6 excepted) come close in ergonomics and performance.

joe_margetts5
I have 85mm F2 AIS. Find it a bit of a clumsy focal legnth for most things. Expect it is great for portraits.

dj_soroka
The SP is a rangefinder. In SLR's I like the N90s and F3, with either: 24 35 f/1.4 105 f/2.
arraga
I don't have much experience with other bodies, but my F3 with MD-4 and 105/2.5 is a really nice combination. The camera looks hungry for film.

rick_helmke
First night on the road trip and found a computer with access so here I am. Funny you should ask. F2/MD-2 with a 20mm/3.5 Nikkor or an 80-200 and a Sunpack 511 on the wrong side of the camera. Yes, I'm that old and no, the 511 is no longer among the living. I got in more trouble with editors using the 20mm. If you didn't read my post from yesterday, guess what I brought on a long road trip. Right behind the F2 is the F4S, w/80-200/2.8 ED and an SB26. But the F2 was my favorite, especially the black one. Rick H.
