stumpy
I'm going to buy a housing for my 20d for mostly surf photography. I intend on using a 10-20mm zoom for wide as well as a 300f4lis or possiably the 70-200 f2.8. The problem is that I am torn between the ikolite (which has full control of nearly all functions and an impressive build quality) and the other pistol grips which are possiably more suited for surf photography. Can anyone share their experience/knowledge with the these housings?
kin_lau
I was in Hawaii for 2 weeks, and did shoot some surfers for fun, and found that from the shore, I was using my Sigma 170-500 mostly @ the 500mm end with a 300D. There were a few pro's out there shooting, and they were using 500mm primes. Check here for a few of my surfing shots.
neal_thatcher
Brady, the problem w/ the Ikolite's I have seen is they are built for diving, way too heavy to use swimming in surf. You should either find a custom builder or I have seen ads in Surfing for a company that is making a cheaper more generic housing specifically for surfing. I have a custom housing w/ 3 ports for a 15mm, 24mm, and 100mm. Zooming is not usually an option in a housing because your lens cannot be moving forward or back...the housing port glass would mess up your picture. You can check out a few of my surf shots from the water at my website: http://www.networksphotoandvideo.com/sports.html
