mwmcbroom
Has anyone discovered a practical way to beef up the NEX 7's tripod mount?

Failing that, I think I'm going to replace my current lens adapters for my NEX for those with integral tripod mounts. Just to be on the safe side.
Ed_Ingold
A Really Right Stuff plate or L-bracket for the NEX-7 conforms to the camera and would distribute the stress of mounting the camera to a tripod. Using this plate would require an Arca style clamp on tripod head. IMO, an Arca type quick release system is the way to go for any camera or collection of cameras. It is a secure system, and cameras don't twist on the mount.

http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/Shop/Alpha-NEX-6-NEX-7/
Hector Javkin
I don't know the NEX 7, but a quick release plate or L-bracket which is custom-designed for a particular camera makes for a much more solid connection than the tripod screw alone. RRS makes one for the NEX 7. To use it you need either a tripod head with an A-S type clamp, or just the clamp, which you can attach to whatever head you are using. Many of us prefer this attachment method, even if the camera's tripod socket is strong.

Edit: I just saw that Edward gave you the same suggestion while I was still writing. Obviously I second his opinion.
mwmcbroom
Thanks guys, I'll check into this. Tell me, do you usually leave this bracket installed on the camera, or do you remove it once you've pulled the camera off the tripod?

Ed_Ingold
RRS plates and L-brackets are very compact. They are also dedicated to a particular make and model of camera. I leave them on all the time. In general, RRS plates will accommodate auxiliary cables, body straps, and allow the battery to be changed without dismounting. The camera and plate will fit in a bag, but not in a half or full leather case.

If you need to use a conventional tripod with a screw mount, or a Black Rapid strap, the plate has a 1/4"-20 hole tapped in the bottom.
