karl_keung
hello, any users of beattie's screen? is it better, the same or inferior to the latest acute matte D screen?
Ed_Ingold
I use a Beattie screen on a Rolleiflex TLR. It works well, and is much better than the original screen it replaced. It's like a new camera. However, I use Acute-Matte screens on my Hasselblads. The quality of construction is much better than the Beattie, as is the underlying technology. The Acute-Matte has very uniform illumination across the entire screen, and is quite easy to use for focusing. The Fresnel pattern is clearly visible in the Beattie, but invisible in the Acute-Matte screen. Both are available with focusing aids, but I prefer a plain or plain-grid screen for focusing and composition.
karl_keung
thanks, and is there any sigficant different betweent the first generation acute matte introduced in the 1989 and the later D type introduced in 1996? and if i am to install one in a 500c camera, do I have to rip off the metal frame thus making it no longer useable on other bodies? douglas_green1
IMHO, you should actually be thinking about the Maxwell screens and the Acute matte screens. Both are better than the Beatties. I am a big fan of the Maxwells, but I have much less experience with the Acute Matte screen.
mike_barger
I had David Odess put a Brightscreen brand screen in my 500C and it seems brighter and easier to focus than my first generation acutematte screen in my 500CM. Mike
