miles_feigenbaum___dallas_
Howdy guys, Do any of you have hands on experience using the Canon EF-35 f1.4L with the 1.3 crop factor just behind the basketball hoop, floor level? Thinking about this one and the EF-24-70 f2.8L. I am leaning towards the 35... gracias amigos!
ralph_wilson
The short answer is "no" because I shoot Nikon, but when I shoot under the hoop I use a 50mm 1.4 or an 85mm 1.8 depending on the gym.
oswegophoto
Another Nikon/film user (sorry) but the 35 should be good, as I really like a 50mm in that situation. The 24-70 sure sounds like it'd cover your bets, though you might be surprised by feeling the f/2.8 a bit slow in a gym (assuming flash not allowed). I don't use my 50mm f/1.2, my f/1.8 is fine, so an f/1.4 should be golden. You'll have fun; that's a great spot for shooting, if you keep an eye out for oncoming players. ;-)
tom_platt
I'd say go with the 24-70 F2.8L, will give you far more versatility. The extra 1.5ish stops would make a difference but with ISO1600 it should be fine for 1/400th of a second in most gyms
bens
go for the reach and versatility. the 35mm focal length is okay, but it won't give you a lot of options.
