tom_luongo1
Just got a new 85mm f/1.4 but stopped down at f/16 it looks like the attached photo. It is not as bad at wider apertures but still appears a bit oblong at least to the naked eye. Does this look normal to anyone? For one thousand dollars, I'd expect something more symmetric and I am returning the lens.<div></div>
blumesan
Definitely abnormal. The aperture mechanism is defective and besides giving an odd shape it is probably not accurate. Yes, return the lens.
tom_luongo1
Thanks Mike. I was just looking at my 17-55. Not perfectly symmetric but better than this.
gary_watson
If this is the same 85 you pictured as a shipping torture victim, then I'd send it back indicating the crappy packaging was to blame.
flaviosganzerla
Tom, half my lenses are "not perfectly symmetric but better than this" too. Do some tests to check exposure accuracy, and with the results decide what to do.
doccamera
As a Camera repairman, I would say the 9 blade aperture that you have pictured above is completely unacceptable. RETURN the lens ASAP.
