joseph_wei
After reading so many posts regarding the wonderful archival quality of 35mm Kodachrome - and knowing that this film hasn't been available in MF for some time, I was wondering if a film with the archival quality of Kodachrome exists in MF. I've shot a couple of rolls of Ektachrome with my Yashica-Mat with great results, but I'm now starting a family documentation project that would really benefit to have some kind of archival color MF slide film. Any ideas? Thanks! JW
majid
Nope, doesn't exist. Even B&W MF film isn't really archival, as the cellulose acetate base will degrade within a century, unless kept in special low temperature and humidity vaults.
kelly_flanigan1
Kodachrome in 120 was made for awhile in the 1980's. In the early 1950's and before; it was available in 2 1/4 x3 1/4 sheets; for the Kodak Medalist 620 MF camera; with sheet film back. Kodachrome in sheet film was available in the late 1940's up to 11x14 inches. The largest one I saw was an 8x10 my neighnor shot. Kodachrome in sheet film sort of died in the mid 1950's. There was a lawsuit once; to prove the newer Ektachrome was an equalvalent replacement; I think in the mid 1950's.
jbq
I think I remember Fuji claiming that the new Astia 100F had improved archival properties.
Rob F.
E6 films have improved in their archival properties; enough, I think, that Kodachrome has less of an edge now than it once had. For one thing, E6 has a longer projection life than Kodachrome, even if only slightly. Perhaps these things have figured into Kodak's decision to do away with Kodachrome.
