mountainvisions
Has anyone used the Arset/Arax/Arsenal tilt shift or shift lenses? I'm looking at the 35mm 2.8 shift or tilt shift. can you give me an idea of the quality. the review showed pretty darn good sharpness at the center wide open (which I probably would never use) and sharp at the corners by f/8. I was hoping several people used these lenses so i could get an idea of QC of the lenses. I'm not looking for $1000-2000 quality out of a $400 lens but quality is still an issue. I'd really like PC lens for panoramics and architecture but I don't have $300-400 to blow on a lens I will end up dumping. Also, whats the advantage of a tilt/shift vs. a shift. I assume the shift only adjust on one plane, while the TS adjust on 2 planes. Most of the stuff I am thinking about 1 plane would be sufficient, can you give me examples where a second plane would be necessary. Thanks. Jochen_S
If you want to get the entire road in front of you in focus wide open, you tilt the lens downward, that the prolongation of the subject, film and lensboardplane meet at the same point. The feature isn't as necessarry with a 35mm lens as with LF, but surely nice to have.
guido_sardella
Shift corrects perspective, you use it (for example) to have tall building looking vertical and not converging toward the sky. You can have the same effect (with degradation or reduction of picture in post processing). Tilt adjust the plane of focus: instead of having it parallel to the sensor/film plane, you can alter the angle, to put in focus a floor, while the people standing on it are out of focus, for example (as the "toy-city" craze of these days). You can have also this with Photoshop. But you can also use tilt to maximize DOF, and this is something you can't replicate with post- processing. michael_michaelski
Justin, You might want to look at Rick Denny's site (www dot rickdenny dot com) or Trevor's site (www dot pentaconsix dot com). They have both reviewed the shift/tilt lenses from Ukraine. If you want an inexpensive shift lens, look for the Loreo on e*** or go to their web site out of Hong Kong to find a dealer near you. I have both shift lenses but have not used them much, nor have I done a rigorous test of either one - but the Loreo is about $25 (plus your adapter, if needed).Mike
