glenbarrington
This is cross posted from DPR, no response there, so I thought I'd try here. I used to use PhotoPlus 7. I liked it rather well, but I moved on when I realized I needed color management. I was doing some research on low cost editors and re-discovered PhotoPlus now up to V11. I have long recommended the Serif give away version 6, but I never really looked at the recent commercial versions. For $79 USD it claims to offer a LOT of editing power. It seems about as powerful as the more recent versions of PSP. Does anyone have any experience with it? How does it compare to PSP? How is the raw support? Does anyone know how it might integrate with Lightroom? How powerful is the scripting language and the batch processing? for the curious: http://www.serif.com/photoplus/photoplus11/index.asp
william_john_smith1
It does not run on Macintosh so most serious photographers can't use/test it.<BR>I would guess SerifPhoto is similar to Photoshop Elements, no where near Photoshop.
glenbarrington
William, that is the single most idiotic answer I have ever seen. The kind of computer you have is totally irrelevant to the quality of your photos. I suspect you are more of a troll than a serious photographer yourself. Why don't you sit down in the corner and let real photographers have a say? Furthermore, I asked how it compares to PSP not to Photoshop.
geoff_foale
Have you calmed down now, Glen. Personally I found Serif Photo Plus 6 to be a very bad programme when it was first produced. Serif seemed to get their act together with version 8 and number 10 is excellent. I haven't upgraded from 10 to 11 because, as far as I can see the extras are aimed mostly for the amateur and the point and shoot market. OK, I'm not a pro but I don't want to use any of the auto settings. If you are upgrading from version 7 you might as well go the whole hog and get number 11 although you could probably get a good deal on 10. As far as functions are concerned, I much prefer Serif to Elements. I find Serif to be much more logical and easier to use, especially for beginners. The RAW conversion, in my opinion isn't as good as using other specialist convertors. But, obviously, once converted the images can be edited by Photo Plus. To sum up, although Photo Plus has a reasonable amount of power and comprehensive functions, at around 40 GBP you can't compare it with some of the top programmes costing 800 GBP but it suits me and I would recommend it especially, as I have already mentioned, for beginners. I've never used the batch processing but if you need any special advice about Photo Plus functions please ask again. Hope this helps a little. Geoff. geoff_foale
ps. As far as I am aware Serif products only work with Windows. Ask William for more details.
glenbarrington
Geoff, your patronizing attitude is merely smug and irritating. Mr. Smith's reply IS stupid in the extreme. Equating a phtotographer's skills and seriousness with the tools he chooses to use, indicates he has no idea of what he is talking about and I find it unllikely that has ever produced a photo of any consequnce. I've often wondered why people would subscribe to a photosharing site and then not share any photos.
