It adds a whole bunch of really useful capabilities, most of which don't have peers even on high end DSLRs.</p> <p>CHDK records raw in either Adobe DNG or a proprietary RAW format. The RAW option is not compatible with Canon CRW, but can be decoded with (at least) the many engines based on dcraw. The Rawtherapee frontend is pretty good.</p> <p>I record raw files to DNG.
