catchlight
I'm looking to a lightweight, compact tripod that will still support a DSLR and 70-200mm f2.8 lens, and that is light and compact enough not to be a PITA to carry on an extended European trip. Has anyone tried the new Gitzo G1155T? There is sketchy info on Bogen/Gitzo site, and the tripods are actually on sale on the web from MidCity Camera. http://www.bogenimaging.us/news/detail.php3?newsid=119&begincount=0 Or can anyone suggest another carbon fiber tripod that is a good trade-off between weight and strength? Thanks for any comments.
brent_kirkwood
I've been looking for more info on this tripod as well. It looks like a bit more has been (recently?) posted: http://www.bogenimaging.us/product/templates/templates.php3?sectionid=412&itemid=2761 Pretty expensive (list price $850), but includes a head at least. I'd love to hear from anyone who has actually tried it. Brent Kirkwood
catchlight
Brent and others, you might be interested in these links: http://www.nikonians.org/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=872&forum=DCForumID15&viewmode=all#1 http://www.feisol.com http://www.nordicgroup.us/tripod/ http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/tripods/ The Taiwanese-made Feisol tripods were new to me, but look like an interesting, less expensive option for travel use. gerald_limbert
I've had a G1155T for about a week now, apparently one of only two yet available in the United Kingdom. It's a stunning piece of kit and worth every penny of the 395 pounds sterling I paid for it. I heartily recommend it and at 2.2 lbs am happy to carry it in my rucksac. It's very stable and supports 4 lbs of camera and lens admirably. Buy it as soon as you can. My only gripe is that I wish Gitzo had made a new mini not too bulky lightweight bag for it. A fabulous and innovative piece of kit!!!
brent_kirkwood
Thanks a bunch for the short review Gerald. Information on this tripod is still pretty scarce. The tripod itself is still not even available at any dealer that I trust. Where did you get yours? I've been searching for alternatives, but I see no other tripod so small that is rated to support so much weight. I'm looking forward to having a tripod that I can carry in my bag with me everyday.
