Anyone ever use a Plaubel Profia Peco 5x7?

I've seen quite a few of these for sale from a German site. Has

anyone ever used one? What backs do they take (are Plaubel 5x4

reducing backs available). Do they also take something like the

Canham 6x17 rf back? I would appreciate any experiences good or bad.

the Plaubel Peco Profias were, I believe, the #1 selling LF cameras among profesionals in Germany. They cover 4x5, 5x7(13x18 cm), 8x10, there are reducing adapters which take the 4x5 back. I do not know the Canham 6x17 rf back, therefore cannot comment. The Plabel Peco Profias are very robust, I use them for very long repro barrel lenses and the front standard is made to hold such lenses reliably, and in my view Profias are easy to use. They may not have the last refinement of the Sinar P/P2, but due to the price at which they can be had they may be quite attractive.

Plaubel is still existent. They were acquired by Horseman a few years ago, and in addition to their own stuff, they also market Horseman and Toyo in Germany. They have a web page at http://www.plaubel.com (where else.)

I found a 5x7 to 4x5 reducing adaptor in their pricelist for 205 EUR. You may want to send e-mail to them or give them a call to ask if the adaptor is suitable for the specific camera you are looking at.

 

I am not too familiar with their cameras, but I see no reason why the backs should be anything but the regular international backs.

Thank you all for your help! I have checked out the Plaubel website and they are still being produced. They seem to be very good value as used cameras.

Had one of these for a while as well as a few of their 4x5's over the years. One of the best monorails ever. Very smooth and unusually accurate focusing. Now, used, probably the best buy in monorails.
