james_glucksman1
I just got my 5DMk2 last week, and have just shot with it for a few days in Taiwan. When I first got it I noticed that the shutter had a very different sound than my old 5D and even than my 50D, with a sort of "clang" noise to it that I associate with my old Elan IIe when it was getting a bit up there in years. The photos it takes are outstanding, though, so perhaps it's just a matter of getting used to a new sound. Anyone else notice this? Am I just being paranoid? yakim_peled1
My 40D has a CF for shutter noise. It is possible that your 5D Mk II has one as well. Happy shooting, Yakim.
jon wilson
Every model of camera sounds different.
btmuir
Yakim, are you talking Live View shutter noise? Is the OP talking regular curtain shutter noise?
PuppyDigs
Yakim was jerkin' yo' chain: unlike point 'n shoots, there are no CFs for shutter noise. Every EOS body has a different shutter sound due to some combination of body resonance, shutter mechanism and mirror slap. The Elans were among the nicest shutter sounds--gentle click. My old EOS 3 and 20D were among the worse--loud tearing off sound. Of course the EOS3 also adds the film advance to the mix. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
btmuir
haha, though he may a been referencing the "silent mode" for LV
des adams
Can you play a tune on it ... there's the thing.
james_glucksman1
I was referring to the shutter noise. I will see if there is a control for the "quiet shutter", like on my 50D, and will report back.
tim_klimowicz
"Can you play a tune on it ... there's the thing." Mmmmm, I'd have mine play Paul Simon's 'Kodachrome' with every shutter press. "Mama don't take my Kodachrome, mama don't take my Kodachrome, mama don't take my Kodachrome away!"
yakim_peled1
Silent mode works not only in LV but in 'One shot' as well. Happy shooting, Yakim.
