jeff_livacich
For those who are members there. Anybody had contact with Sean? APUG was supposed to be down for revamp for one to three days; it's now almost six.
I like photo.net but I still miss my Apuggery! (That didn't sound quite right.)
I hope the patient didn't die on the operating table. Maybe they just haven't been able to delete the deleted thread. Yeah, that's probably it.
david_henderson
It's up now and I did go on it briefly yesterday too.
chrisnielsen
APUG's been back up for several days now. Maybe time to clear your browser cache and try again?
jeff_livacich
Wow. I've gone directly to www.apug.org off a Google search and got nothing.
I just entered http://www.apug.org directly- nothing. Without the www.- nothing. Tried .com- different organization altogether. Tried .net--- domain name available.
I'd appreciate it if you could please tell me what is in your browser after http://
Thanks.
BTW, cleared the cache. Everything. No change. Both Firefox and IE. Never connects. Just times out.
lex_jenkins
The notice the other day said they were remodeling the site. Comes up fine for me now, just checked. Works via my usual bookmark and the URL you entered in your post, Jeff.
http://www.apug.org/forums/home.php
jeff_livacich
This is weird. Lex's URL was my default. Then I tried the others I mentioned.
I was on it when it went down Friday. At least I guess that's what happened-it just disconnected and that was it. Never saw any notice after that. When I've tried to connect it just doesn't complete.
jeff_livacich
Apug's sister site Hybridphoto hasn't worked since then, either. Sounds like their server is mad at my computer or something. Maybe a handshake problem. I'm going to get on a different computer later and see if I can get on that way and let them know what happened.

Thanks, guys.
JDMvW
What I had got a day or so ago was a block saying I couldn't get any access without logging in. Now it looks to be back on line.
mikael_karlsson
Works fine for me.

Here's a great way to check if a site that you can't get to is really down for everyone or if there is some other problem: http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/
cabbiinc
They do have a Facebook page if you're so inclined.
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/wwwAPUGorg/42045841037

jeff_livacich
I went to the site Mikael posted and found it's just me. I didn't know about the Facebook page; I went there and found that I'm not the only one with the problem.

Thanks everyone for the info and help.
parv
Jeff, could the DNS servers be the culprit? Have you tried accessing the site so that you would not get the same DNS servers (use another network service provider, or supply your DNS server names, separate from the ones provided by your network service provider)? jeff_livacich
What is DNS? I am going to try getting on from other places and other computers.
rachelle_m.
It's been back up since Monday, although Sean is continuing to work out some bugs with the new site.

What version of IE are you on? If it's IE6 you may have to upgrade.
jason_hall5

Maybe they just haven't been able to delete the deleted thread.

Yeah, I don't think that thing can be gotten rid of....to be honest it would a sad day if it did. What else would we do on days that we don't have anything else to talk about.

Jason
jeff_livacich
I have tried Firefox, Opera and IE8. I normally use Firefox.
I haven't used IE6 (shudder) in years.
lex_jenkins
Jeff, if you're on a dynamic DSL ISP, try resetting your modem. Occasionally I'll reset mine and the new IP seems to clear up occasional problems.

jeff_livacich
Jason-
Without the deleted thread it just wouldn't be the same APUG.

Lex- I'm not on DSL, but I am on FIOS. I don't have direct access to the modem or the router, but I will ask the guy who does to reset them when I see him next.
Thanks.
I did go over to FEDEX/Kinko's and got on APUG through them. Man, 20 cents a minute adds up fast! Especially as APUG was responding very slowly sometimes.
parv
Jeff, see http://cr.yp.to/djbdns/intro-dns.html ; http://www.menandmice.com/knowledgehub/dnsglossary/domain_name_system/ about "DNS". I was hinting that if APUG had changed the IP address, your ISP DNS servers might not have received the update for whatever reason, and were holding onto old IP address. Thus getting you to no where near APUG.
jeff_livacich
Thanks for that, parv. I'm in contact with Sean now, and he's looking to see if the problem's on his end. If it isn't then I'll be talking to my ISP (Verizon).
Thanks. And thanks to all who have responded. It's much appreciated.
